Do you keep financial secrets from your partner? This subject fascinates me as financial secrets or misunderstandings are a major cause of tensions in relationships. Isn’t it easier to just be honest with your partner and avoid this altogether?
If I had to be surprised with a financial secret I would much rather find out that we had a secret savings account. It would bring a smile to my face to become aware that my partner had been squirreling money away for years, and now we can retire ten (10) years earlier. A secret credit card balance would not be a pleasant surprise.

The worst thing I found out was my ex kept losing receipts for cash withdrawals so we ended up with over draft fees constantly for money I was not aware was withdrawn. Also he spent excessively on car junk with credit cards and later would claim he did not.
That sounds like a terrible experience C. I hope everything has been resolved now.
I couldn’t imagine keeping secrets from my significant other but I often hide money from myself so I won’t spend it

Thanks for the mention. About the one financial secret that springs to mind was the unwelcome news that my bank account had been almost cleaned out by some trusted family members (looong story).
Shocker. That would make thanksgiving very awkward! Sorry, I shouldn’t make light of this misfortune. I have a few relatives that I wouldn’t trust with money either.
Hey Hunter, thanks for the mention! A surprise savings account sure would be nice! My hubbie and I are open about all our money stuff but we still like to have both separate and joint accounts. Before we got married we didn’t talk about our spending or saving habits as much but I’m glad we do now b/c it really helps keep us both motivated to work towards our goals and retirement fund together. -Sydney
