Sounds like a terrific challenge. I’m not so good at picking stocks. How long does the challenge last? A year? It will be interesting to see how the market performs in 2012 (hopefully better than 2011!)

Please sign-up LH. It’s going to be fun, I promise. Pick any stocks that you some interest in. I picked Coca Cola! It’s a community building project and I hope it generates some interest and discussion.

I signed up as well! Let’s see how the market performs in 2012! Election years are usually good years…

Popping over from “Buck Inspire”. The Index Fund Challenge looks fun for someone who knows about stocks. I know nothing and I’d have to look up the stock codes and I don’t even know what stocks are available–so have fun. I wish I did know more.

Hi Arlee, thank your stopping by. I read your comments at Buck Inspire. I can’t get enough of that blog, he does a great job.

I agree, stocks, codes, indices, markets, etc can be just too much.

An alternative to this is to just think about quality and services and products you regularly purchase and use. The companies behind these would make perfect choices for this challenge.

For example, I drink (too much) Diet Coke. I admire the marketing system that Coke has developed for 125 years, so I chose the Coca Cola Company (stock symbol: KO) as one of my 3 picks for the challenge. If you go to Yahoo Finance, they make it easy to a find the stock code for any company you can think of that is publicly listed.

I hope you can join the challenge!

Sign up one and all. It’s all in fun.

  5. I am not at all good at short term stock picking. All the best to all fro yakezie who entered.

    • Hunter says:

I hope you sign-up SB. I’m no expert either, I generally leave my stock pickis up to professional money guessers. There’s nothing like being invested, even hypothetically, to focus your attention. I think it will be a great learning opportunity for all of us.

Sounds like fun! I entered my picks. Can’t say I’m an expert stock picker. Good luck to all!

  8. I’m still a newbie when it comes to picking stocks. All my investments are those automatic allocation mutual funds with little management needed.

    • Hunter says:

My stock picking methods are not always rational. 99% of my investing is done through large mutual funds also, so I don’t get much of a say in individual choices. I hope you have a go. It will be fun to see how it works out.
