Michael Pollan’s Food Rules does away with conflicting diets and health advice and presents a refreshingly simplistic perspective on our daily decisions about food.

This pocket-sized book contains 64 single-page principles of healthy eating from traditions and cultures through the ages. Whether you’re at the buffet or shopping in the supermarket, if you’ve ever wondered “What should I eat?” this is the perfectly sensible guide.

Pollan speaks through the animation below on the topic of organics, production, and how things are out of balance. Enjoy!

I think I’m going to eventually read all of Michael Pollan’s books. Excellent video find, Hunter.

In February, my family started eating more organic foods than processed foods. At first, the transition was very difficult. But I’ve noticed on the few occasions where processed food was the main source of a meal- I feel really bad afterward and I don’t like that feeling.

It’s amazing how much better I feel now. I still have a long way to go to really improve my health- but I see improvements everyday. I didn’t get fat overnight…and I won’t get healthy overnight either.

We’re moving towards a healthier diet too. Interestingly, my 6 year old was a very picky eater and wanted not much more than processed hot-dogs for a while. His skin started to look terrible and his temper started to blow-up. We improved his diet, dropped the processed meat and the transformation was very positive and almost immediate.

I haven’t heard of Michael Pollen, but I’ll check it out. I try to eat lots of fruits and veggies and fresh food. I avoid junk food as much as possible; chips, candy, soda, etc. I just can’t eat that stuff anymore.

I feel so much better when I eat natural foods. I also sleep a lot better in the spring and fall when the windows are open and ther’s no need for artificial heating and cooling.

This is one of the many reasons I eat mostly vegetarian. It’s better for the environment, obviously better for animals, and it also is very healthy. -Sydney

I honestly think our bodies are genetically wired to need only very small portions of meat. I think it’s been a decade since I purchased a steak. That’s mainly due to being a five person family with limited resources (and I’m stingy), but the health benefits are also evident. Thanks Sydney.
