Install Your Own Toilet And Save Money
Installing a toilet is a fairly simple project. With a little confidence you can do it yourself and save money. We upgraded our throne in under 30 minutes with no further instruction than those printed on the box.
It really is as easy as choosing a new toilet from your favorite hardware store and bolting it on. We chose an inexpensive model, however we think it looks pretty sharp. The oval-shaped bowl is an improvement from the round unit it replaced.
The new throne also has a dual flush option; half-flush for light duty, and full-flush when required. This really is a great feature as most of us underestimate the cost of water. Water is our single most expensive utility so any savings are a welcome bonus to the bottom line.
This was one of the final D.I.Y. projects to be completed before we vacate our house and put it on the rental market. I hope our future tenants will enjoy their comfortable new commode.

Sleek new toilet!

Dual flush! Save water, save money.
We have several more D.I.Y projects underway and I look forward to sharing those before and after photos with you very soon.

Well done, Hunter! Looks sharp!
Thanks mate!
This looks like a simple enough project to handle on your own. I admit I’d probably get a bit intimidated and get a plumber to help out.
It’s really simple. Why not try it yourself and call a plumber if you get stuck?
I seriously need a new one. Any recommendation on what brand or model? I’ll DIY for sure.
Crystal Bay is the brand we chose, and I believe it cost $98…pay no more! There’s always bargains going on for this stuff so I would suggest being patient and shopping around until you see what you like at the right price.
Funny, I just repaired my toilet this weekend. I had to replace a seal. That is my limit of DIY skills!
Ha, I don’t believe it. With your learning capacity you would pick this up in a few minutes.
Looks good. We need to put a new toilet in our guest bathroom, not looking forward to that!
Just be patient and you’ll be fine. Choosing a good wax ring is the key!
Love the dual flush! Would really like to see more of this in the US!
Yes, it’s a simple feature but will save lots of water over the life of the toilet.
Very nice Hunter and a big thumbs up for getting one with the dual flush option!
Dual flush, must be twice as good, right? My oldest son is in a ‘when it’s yellow, let it mellow’ phase right now. I’m hoping this eco feature will help him to flush more freely!
Well done on the install and with the savings!!!
Cool, thanks Ted.
Nice job Hunter! I’ve changed the flapper in the tank of mine before but never actually replaced the entire toilet.
Thankfully there’s lots of help available for home DIY people like us. YouTube has a how-to video for every cenceivable repair.
I liked the first post-installation photo of the new toilet – it was like AHHHHHHH (envision angels singing, not me typing). All hail the throne!
Hunter – Looks great! I may also be taking on a project like this when we tile our floors soon.
Congrats on the new throne! Dual flush? Saving water and money. Double your pleasure! I’m all thumbs, but enjoyed your achievement and pics!
Thankfully my husband knows how to do stuff like this. It’s one of the reasons I keep him around!
It is amazing to think about how knowing how to do something like this saves a ton of money.
I really like that Toilet! I don’t know about the installing myself though I am sure I could if I really wanted to. Like the dual button concept.
