With military orders in-hand we are moving to a new area. Faced with break-even equity at best on our home we’ve decided to put it on the rental market.

Last month I shared some images of various D.I.Y. home projects that we were aiming to complete as quickly as possible. There’s a time crunch; we’re hoping to have our house rented and occupied by the middle of June, but we have a lot of work ahead of us. Ongoing long-term projects were yet to be completed, and desperately needed updates were required in many rooms.

We like doing the work ourselves both for the satisfaction and the cost savings. Sweat equity pays big dividends and it’s a win win if you enjoy doing the work like we do.

While we have made some great progress, there’s still a few projects that need our attention. Today I’m pleased to share with you some of the before and after images to put our hard work into perspective.

Kitchen

Before:

Paint top kitchen cabinets. I ripped the kitchen out 2 years ago and now we only have this task remaining. A solid weekend of painting and well be done.

 After:

Blue Living Room

Before:

Change blue room to beige (Parisian Taupe). We love our blue room but renters don't. This requires taping, patching, priming, and two top coats. Fun!

 After:

Half Bath

Before:

Downstairs Half-Bath needs to be updated. I started pulling this apart just yesterday with the help of my eager young and exceedingly capable assistants. Kids love learning how to D.I.Y. projects!

 Demolition:

 Gutted:

…to be continued.

  1. So very impressive, Hunter! Your home is lovely! If you all need a place to land between assignments, feel free to come work – I mean stay – at my house!

  2. Looks great! I need to repaint my rental home too. The renter doesn’t like orange walls. :)

  3. Krantcents says:

Nice job! Since I have no DIY skills and even less mechanical ability I usually call in people. In Los angeles, You can find some really skillful people fo reasonable prices.

  4. Michelle says:

    Wow looks great!

  5. I like the bright colors. It sure to add some ‘Chi’ in your home. Great job Hunter!

  6. The before & after of the Blue room looks amazing. And how chic are those rattan chairs? You should do a post on how you went about renovating those areas and the cost and materials you needed… so people like me can learn. :)

  7. Little House says:

The kitchen and living room look terrific. It’s amazing what paint will do. The bathroom looks like a lot of work, but I bet it will look great when it’s all finished. Good luck with finishing those projects this month!

  8. Those updates look awesome! I am sure they will help get your place rented out. I am looking forward to when I have time to update the areas of my townhouse I want to update.

Best of luck with the bathroom. I know how much work DIY projects are!

  10. That to be continued on your bathroom reno is the ultimate tease!! Thanks for the pictures. I think we have a lot of similar style tastes, so I’m looking forward to seeing what you do in that powder room!
